Camp-out Essentials: Required Personal Equipment for Overnight Camping

Scout Book
- In a protective container (i.e., gallon sized Ziploc Bag)
- Pen or pencil
- Notebook
First Aid Kit
- Kept in easily accessible pocket where others can find it
- 6 bandages
- 2 3×3 sterile gauze pads
- 3×6 piece of moleskin
- Soap, sanitizer, or alcohol wipes
- Tweezers
- 1 Safety Pin
- Small roll of bandage tape
- Safety scissors (if needed to cut tape)
Items
- Pocket Knife (Must have totin’ chip)
- Matches/firestarter
- Compass
- Emergency Whistle
- Parachute cord/Rope
- Flashlight/headlamp
Water Bottle
- Minimum 1 quart
- Avoid water bladders unless you plan to keep them clean and mold free
Sleeping Bag
- Rated 30 degrees or lower (unless camping in summer)
- Synthetic Material (best for beginners)
Mess Kit
- Bowl
- Plate
- Cup or Mug
- Fork
- Spoon
Clothing
- Class A Uniform is worn when traveling
- Class B shirt for at camp (shirt color chosen by patrols)
- No open toe shoes!
- Dress for the weather (Rain poncho, swimsuit, winter coat, etc.)
Toiletries
- Soap
- Deodorant/Antiperspirant
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste/Floss
- Comb
- Camp Towel
Pack or Duffel
- To carry all of the equipment and clothing
- Put a large lawn/garbage bag in this that all gear can fit in if necessary to protect from rain
